Portfolio Review #1

All content and design (c) 2008 Susan Hilferty, except where otherwise stated.

Clarity of Intent/ Visual Identity:

The header says very clearly who she is and what she does. She has identified her intent clearly and consciously by putting the header in a larger font and dropping it further down the page, so the reader's eye is she to go there first. She has placed a small photo of herself next to her short bio along with a list of her recent works and a link to her photo portfolio.

Visual Style:

Her website is well organized with a minimalist style. There are no flashing lights, no slideshows, and no background music to detract from her work. It is very clean, but thoughtfully laid out.

Ease of Navigation:

All pages are very easy to navigate and labelled effectively. Links are placed on related pages for ease of navigation. Photos, video, and audio are placed on separate pages instead of under the umbrella of "Multimedia" so you know exactly what you're getting. On her portfolio page, each show has its own page, listed in order.

Quality of Work:

Wonderful. Of course, when you have a professional web developer working with a great product, what else can you expect? She has also posted sketches along with production photos for most of the shows she has done as well as a small blurb about her design concept. This is very helpful to see how other designers work and how their designs have changed from beginning to final product.

Overall Evaluation:

Easy to use, well thought out, high quality photos. I wish that the photos and sketches were a little better organized, perhaps even on separate pages and the sketches organized from principals to chorus, instead of just randomly. Overall, this is a wonderful site that gives the reader the information that they are looking for.
